Authorities stated they were alerted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official said the incident left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
