The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
